Why I Started A Blog

Writing helps us move from living on the surface, to going to the depths of who we are, and why we do what we do. Read about why I decided to start a blog.

Hi there! I’m Angelique Winfield aka AngieBWinn, wife to Brandon, mom of three kids (Jaiden, Jordan, and Jolie), God chaser, PhD student, event planner, image consultant, podcaster, content creator, & speaker.

My Blogging Journey

I never set out to be a blogger. In fact, this entire blogging/content creator journey has been quite a surprise and an interesting adventure thus far! Let me tell you a little about it since I’m new to the blogging scene. Back in 2016, my church hosted a women’s conference and the theme of the conference was “Who Am I”. During that time, I was closing out my first year in my Master’s degree and really had no idea why God had me back in school. I was very confident that after the seven years that it took me to complete my Bachelor’s degree, me and school had finally severed ties however, God had other plans, what they were I had no idea.

During the weeks leading up to my churches’ women’s conference I kept questioning God about my purpose. What did you really create me to do Lord? I like so many things do I pick one? How do I bring them all together? How will you get the glory out of this? I mean, a Master’s Degree was a big deal especially for a person who didn’t really feel like school was for them. It wasn’t until the week before I graduated with my Master’s that God told me that I was going to start a podcast. A PODCAST?!?! God are you sure? More like, God is that you? I had no desire or even a thought to start a podcast, but I was obedient and started the “Under Construction” Podcast and aired my first episode on Friday, May 17th.  God was really stretching me and during that time I thought I was encouraging others, but it was really God encouraging me, which in return, encouraged others through my podcast. As I finished my first season of the podcast I felt another tug from God. He was really beginning to reveal to me some of my questions pertaining to my purpose.  I absolutely love to write. It has always been my heart’s desire to write well. I find that I am able to channel all my thoughts, my concerns, my secrets, all of who I am through the written word.  It took me several months researching different types of blogs to find out how to start a blog. Every time I considered starting a blog,

Who Cares?

I kept thinking:

“What if no one reads it? What if no one cares about what I’m writing? God told me just like he did with the podcast “You’re not for everybody and everybody’s not for you” whoever I needed to reach God would make sure that they’d find me, be encouraged by my writing, and my passion will captivate the ones God intended for me reach. Once I stopped focusing on who would like me and  redirected my thoughts to How God wanted to use me, I stepped out on faith and invested in myself. I took some professional pictures, budgeted for this blog site, and stepped out on faith with this thing.  Writing will help me to grow my niche and sometimes find myself. Did you know that the written word has saved lives, circulated ideas, preserved traditions and memories, and so much more?

There’s something magical about the written word (even in blog form) but there’s an even more powerful thing that happens when someone reads the words you write! Along with my journey, I have figured out that blogging will also help me build my credibility. It gives my own brand a voice and not only can people see the work I produce but through writing, they can get a sense of who I am.

So if you were like me considering starting a blog but not really sure if it’s a good idea, I would highly suggest you try it out, step out on faith because you will never know if it’s for you unless you try. That’s ultimately what I decided, try it out and believe that it will work out for the best because God is a part of this journey. In fact, he’s leading the way!

XOXO,

Angie
